Older individuals are less likely to die from a heart attack if they eat at least one serving of fally fish per week, according to astudy presented at the American Heart Association's 41st Annual Confrenece on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention. (03/01).

Competence, Self-Esteem Are Keys To Happiness

Fame and fortune are appealing, hut a new study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 02/01 found that these two things do little to fulfill one's emotional and psychologial needs. They found competence and autonomy, though, are essential in the pursuit of happiness. The study found that people aren't very satisfied by money, luxury, popularity, and influence, evenwhen they get them.

"What really does it for people is engagement in self-chosen or personally meaningful activities (autonomy), in which they are reasonably effective or skillful (comptence), and which permit them to connect with or contribute to others (relatedness)."

Study results show that the students consistently identified self-esteem relatedness autonomy compeence as the top four keys to a satisfying life. People KNOW that money and notoriety aren't 'it. But we forget. We forget to check in with ourselves, to feel what's really important, what's rigt, what's real.

Improving ones ability to adapt to physical, chemical and emotional stress is an important step towards the achievement of optimal health an wellness. Identifying and prioritizing one's life and having a proper perspective are vital steps in that direction. It is hard to imagine true health or true happiness resulting from an event inne's life. Both are lifestyles..both are processes.
