Is It Worth The Relief?

The FDA said that Merck can claim that Vioxx has fewer gastrointestinal (GI) complications than one older non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, naproxen. The FDA insited that the Vioxx label must mention that it might be linked to an increased risk of heart attack or high blood pressure. Arthritis patients looking for pain relief may have to choose between two evls: a bleeding ulcer from some drugs, maybe a higher risk of heart attack from another. 4/14/02-USA Today

First is the knowledge that you have the power to be well. Your innate intelligece is infinite in its knowledge of what is best for your body. It knows how to best live in your body…it knows how to be well.

With this knowledge comes trust. Trust in your instincts, yourntuition, your innate intelligence is the next step. Feel like your body needs rest? It does. Feel hungry? It is! Feel like more activity or exercise? Right again! When that wee small voice within spaks…listen to it. Your instincts will guide you if you will listen.

With knowledge and trust comes a relationship. Develop a relationship with this inner power by learning to dialogue with i. Most people will dialogue with their inner power with the hope of getting rid of a problem that they have and do not want. It is useful, with the power of your imagination, to look inside at a partof your body that concerns you and ask it, “what purpose do you serve in my life?” You will, however, be served best by getting into communion with this inner wisdom to seek how to gain the healh that you may no longer have. Take this information and accept it as “right” for you. You can never lose by working to acquire greater health.

Next comes acceptance by knowing and understaning that even illness can be a blessing in one’s life if they lead you to a greater understanding and appreciation of God’s greatest creation…you!

After acceptance comes change. Instead of fcusing on what you do not have…focus on what you do have. And, what you do have is the power to change. You can change the habits and lifestyles that may have caused your health to deteriorate and sustitute healthy habits that will cause health to develop rather than diminish. The Bottom Line

The same article in USA Today referenced above also reported that the Merck study found that the rate of serious cardiovascular problems, such as heart attacks orchest pain, was three times higher in the Vioxx group than the naproxen group. So it all comes down to understanding what role pain has in human health and recognizing that the body was designed to b well…not to be dependent upon drugs.
