Heart Drugs That Can Cause Heart Attacks
According to a research abstract (1494), published in the journal, Circulation, on 11/05/02, nitroglycerin and other nitrate drugs which are used by millions to provide temporary relief from angina may also increase future heart attack risk.
Millions of Americans with coronary artery disease have been prescribed nitrate based drugs. There is now evidence to suggest that nitrate drugs accelerate arterial wall damage and therefore contribute to the progression of coronary artery disease---the very condition for which they are prescribed.
Angina patients who rely on nitrate drugs should bring this information to the attention of their prescribing doctor.
Please note that the research indicated that the occasional use of a nitrate drug to relieve angina symptoms was not shown to be dangerous. It was the regular use of a nitrate or nitroglycerin drug that increased the risk of heart attack by 2.42 times (more than double) within a 45 month period.
Nutritional supplements that have been found to help protect against the heart disease usually treated by nitrate drugs include folic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, arginine, taurine and fish oils.
Additionally, preliminary chiropractic research has documented reduction in blood pressure following adjustments.
An ounce of prevention
The Bottom Line
Arthritis drugs contribute to heart disease. Heart disease drugs contribute to heart disease. WHY? We have been continually told that heart disease is a lifestyle disease. The creation of heart disease is a process resulting from a lifetime of bad choices: high fat diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, drinking, high stress, etc. And, the solution is also a lifestyle/lifetime of healthy choice; not pills, powders, potions, lotions: get it!
