Heartburn Drugs
Many patients curretly taking the newest and most expensive drugs for heartburn are dissatisfied with the results, a new study reports. Researchers performed an online study of 4,200 patients drugs such as Prilosec andPrevacid and found:
-35%-41% - continue to experience daily heartburn symptoms.
-60% reported experiencing symptoms three or more times per week.
-75% also take nonprescription drug such as Pepcid, Maalox and Tums.
-25% said they take over-the-counter drugs instead of their prescription.
The study was commissioned by a group of drug manufacturers and conducted byAcuity and Harris Interactive. These new heartburn drugs are heavily promoted by the drug companies to MD's and to consumers through advertising. According to Business Week, Priolsec is the lop sellng prescription drug in the world. It earns Astra Zeneca (the drug's maker) 6 billion dollars per year. To add insult to injury, these drugs do NOT solve the problem. Drugs are rarely, if ever, indiated for the common ulcer and associated stomach problems.
The Bottom Line:
These drugs are expensive, people are not satisfied with the results they are getting and, through these of advertising; these drugs are making the drug makers a fortune. What is wrong with this picture? What's wrong is that the public believes that heartburn is an event (symptom) to be treated withanother event (drugs). Yet, we onlyever lose or regain our health as the result of a process (like poor diet and high stress). We offer a process orientedapproach!
