One way fitness professionals on Wall Street in NY are responding to recent economic uncertainties affecting their corporate clientele is by adding classes in yoga, meditation and other so-called mind-body regimens designed to help alleviate stress. Reduce the stress load, increase your ability to adapt or both.
In an article published in the October 21, 2008 edition of the NY Times, it was reported that, for the first time in at least a decade, the nation’s consumers are trying to get by on fewer prescription drugs. As people around the country respond to financial and economic hard times by juggling the cost of necessities like groceries and housing, drugs now are sometimes having to wait.
Experts feel the that the prescription downturn most likely tied to a worsening economic environment. Interestingly, other experts feel that the cutbacks might not hurt. According to Gerard F. Anderson, a health policy expert at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, “a lot of people think there there’s probably over-prescribing in the United States.
How so? Overall spending in the United States for prescription drugs is still the highest in the world, an estimated $286.5 billion last year.
Now, what’s the good news? The good news is that the best defense against having drug bills that prevent you from paying other important bills is to actually take the right steps to being and staying as healthy as possible. Imagine $300 for a prescription for antibiotics? Imagine not needing them in the first place!
This is the most important time in our history when an ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure. Make sure your nervous system and immune system are as healthy as possible…your best bet in these or any times.
